Since May 3rd, 2023, the Kuki-Zo tribals have been the victims of unspeakable atrocities at the hands of the majority radical Meitei community in the northeastern Indian state of Manipur. Hundreds have been killed, tens of thousands displaced, and total loss of faith in the government of Manipur, headed by its Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh, due to their evident inaction and bias against the Kuki-Zo. Tulsa, OK – Kuki Inpi USA, the apex body of Kuki ethnic community organizations in the United States, extends heartfelt gratitude and commendation to our dedicated Kuki Inpi USA members, regional Kuki community organizations – Kuki Inpi Oklahoma, Kuki Community DC, the Kuki community in Chicago, and the Kuki community in Portland – and our esteemed partner organizations, the North American Manipur Tribal Association (NAMTA), and Zomi Innkuan USA (ZIUSA), for their unwavering support and united participation in recent rallies and demonstrations held in multiple cities. These rallies, which took place in Tulsa, Washington D.C., Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, and Portland, were organized to express solidarity and support for the Kuki-Zo people in Manipur, India, who have been facing the harrowing challenges of attempted systematic ethnic cleansing by the radicalized sect of the Meitei people of Manipur. The resounding success of these events owes much to the unwavering commitment and unwavering support of our community members and regional organizations. Kuki Inpi USA recognizes and appreciates the efforts put forth by Kuki Inpi Oklahoma, Kuki Community DC, the Kuki community in Chicago, and the Kuki community in Portland, for mobilizing their members and community to stand united in this crucial cause. The dedication of Kuki Inpi USA members and individuals who traveled from near and far to participate in these rallies has demonstrated the power of collective action and has given voice to the aspirations of the Kuki-Zo people. Furthermore, we extend our sincere gratitude to our partner organizations, NAMTA, and ZIUSA, whose exceptional support and collaboration have been instrumental in raising awareness about the plight of the Kuki-Zo community. Together, we have sparked a broader conversation on human rights, social justice, and the preservation of cultural identities. Kuki Inpi USA acknowledges the significance of unity and solidarity among all these organizations and individuals, which has been a driving force in bringing attention to the challenges faced by the Kuki-Zo people in Manipur. The collective efforts have not only highlighted the struggles of our community but have also emphasized the importance of cherishing diversity and upholding the rights of every individual.
